It's one of the county's most famous landmarks and looks breathtaking in every season.

Yes, it's Colmers Hill, and it also acts as a muse for photographer Doug Chalk, renowned for his popular calendars themed on the iconic spot.

Here, Mr Chalk shares with us just some of his varied collection and tells us a bit more about his love of photography.

The 74-year-old, who worked as a freelance photographer in the 80s, moved to the area 20 years ago and enjoys taking pictures of landscapes, seascapes, candid people shots and anything that 'catches his eye.'

But the stunning view of Colmers Hill he has from his home is his muse, he says.

"I was so pleased to see her in snow twice in March," he said. "I've waited eight years for snow. All the calendar shots are taken during the months they represent, so I keep it seasonal."

Mr Chalk prides himself on being 'old school' and does not edit or change his pictures with computer programs. With the help of well-known west Dorset photographer Neil Barnes, Mr Chalk puts together a calendar each year which is much-loved and well-received in the area.

"Neil talked me into doing the calendar when he saw some of my work and I am very grateful to him for giving me the motivation," said Mr Chalk. "Neil does the layout of the calendar and makes the final choice of the pictures as I send him five for each month - that's hard enough as I take so many - and five for the cover. I am extremely grateful to him, he changed my life seven years ago."

Mr Chalk's 2019 calendar is already out on the shelves and you can pick one up from his usual stall on South Street at next week's Christmas Cheer.
