Tesco's site in Dorchester could have a KFC restaurant – including a drive through.

If approved the scheme could create 50 full and part-time jobs.

The restaurant is being proposed to the west of the main store between the existing petrol station and the town football club – which one objector says will lead to further traffic queues in the area at an already congested junction.

West Dorset planning has received an application for a site adjoining the store off Weymouth Avenue. It has been submitted by Caskade Caterers Limited via a Welwyn Garden City agent.

The proposed opening times are from 1030am to 11.30pm Monday to Sunday.

The only public comment to the scheme, submitted so far, comes from a resident who warns that the town does not need the fast food outlet and is likely to cause to severe congestion at the junction. He points out that traffic already queues back onto the Tesco site at peak times leading to long delays.

Planning committee members will be told, when they consider the application, that the original Tesco application did included and was granted permission for a restaurant on the site in 1995.
