Albion Stone is building a brighter Christmas and new year for underprivileged children, with a £100 donation to the Echo's Toy Appeal.

The Portland based company is the latest to come forward in support of the Toy Appeal with a £100 donation. The money raised will be used to buy presents for children who would otherwise have to go without on Christmas morning.

The appeal has been running for 19 years, to support Dorset families facing hardship.

Office manager Kelly Matthews said: "We're proud to support the Toy Appeal every year.

"Many children take toys for granted nowadays, but the kids these presents go to will genuinely appreciate them - it's nice to think that they will have an unexpected surprise on Christmas morning.

"I hope it's something a lot more local businesses get on board with to give these children memories they can really cherish."

Albion Stone has been involved with the Portland Stone industry for over three quarters of a century. The company's factory is one of the largest and most technically advanced in the UK, producing a wide range of Portland stone products from slabs, cladding panels, pavers and tiles to the most intricate hand carved stones. The company has switched its operations from quarrying to mining to make Portland stone an economical yet sustainable choice that compares favourably with many alternative construction materials.

Ms Matthews added: "Here at Albion we try and support local charities as much as possible - particularly those that help children and older people.

"A lot of the workforce here have kids themselves, so the Toy Appeal is absolutely something that's very close to our hearts.

"There's so much pressure on parents to buy presents - so many people get themselves into debt at Christmas so hopefully this will relieve some of the pressure for those families."

Dorset Echo promotions manager Debbie Hellaby said: "Without the support of our readers and local businesses we would not be able to help put smiles on all those families' faces at Christmas, so a big 'thank you' in advance for your help."
