St Alban Street, Weymouth
St Alban Street in Weymouth could be pedestrianised using a temporary, experimental traffic order.
Borough council management committee members are being asked to back the idea at their December 11th meeting.
The trial scheme, which will cost about £12,000 to set up, would be monitored over six months and could be made permanent at a cost of an extra £80,000.
Says a report to the committee: “The pedestrianisation of the town centre is considered to be an important way of supporting the town centre economy and to improve the safety of shoppers.”
If councillors back the decision the request for the experimental traffic order will go to the county council for it to implement. The report gives no indication of timescales.
