A serious incident brought the A351 near Wareham to a standstill.
A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said one person had to be cut free from a vehicle and Dorset Police confirmed a woman was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
Police confirmed they were called to the scene at 7:31am following a crash between a Fiat Punto and a lorry on the A351 Wareham Road at Holton Heath.
The road was reopened at around 9.50am.
