The Mayor of Weymouth and Portland will share Christmas treats with local veterans

Former Forces’ personnel are invited by Weymouth and Portland Borough Council to a Christmas treat of tasty mince pies and Christmas cake donated by local bakers, Dorset Cake Co., as part of the borough’s December Veterans’ Rendezvous.

The event will be held on Wednesday, December 12, from 10am to noon in the Weymouth RAFA “Wings Club” on Maiden Street.

The traditional Christmas cuisine of Christmas cake and mince pies will be delivered to the borough’s Veterans Rendezvous and presented along with festive greetings from the Mayor, Cllr Gill Taylor, at 11am.

Cllr Taylor said: “We are very proud of our strong relationship with the veteran’s community and associations and commend them for their wonderful support to Weymouth’s annual Armed Forces Day Celebration’s event in June and especially in the 100th anniversary year of the begin of World War 1.

“We are delighted that Dorset Cake Co. is able to supply the Christmas treat for the veterans again this year - a splendid festive gesture of goodwill”.

Paul Walden, Dorset Cake Co. Managing Director said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to supply our local veterans and friends with a Christmas treat fresh from our local bakery.

“It’s great to be able to contribute to the Veterans Christmas Rendezvous each year and add to the festive fun”.

Weymouth and Portland’s Events Team are pleased to announce that the 2019 Weymouth and Portland Armed Forces Day Celebrations will take place over Saturday 22nd, Sunday 23rd and Monday 24th June.
