YOUNGSTERS who bring festive cheer to a colony of Australian penguins can get free entry to Weymouth Sea Life this Christmas.

The attraction has launched a Christmas card appeal for its colony of fairy penguins - the world’s smallest species - who were rehomed in Weymouth earlier this year after their original home in Manly, Australia, closed down.

Anyone under the age of 14 who takes along their own home-made Christmas Card for the penguins will get free entry to the whole Park.

“They missed the worst of the Australian winter and went straight into a second summer in their new purpose-built enclosure here at Weymouth Sea Life,” said Curator Fiona Smith.

“That should have helped them adjust to the different cycle of seasons already, but anything to ease their first British winter experience will be welcomed, and they are such inquisitive birds that a colourful display of home-made Christmas cards should delight them.”

Christmas card deliveries will be welcome any time from now until Christmas Eve and will be put on public display at Fairy Penguin Island.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
