Two hectares of heathland has been destroyed in a fire.

Firefighters were called just after 9pm yesterday after an area of heath caught fire near Lulworth.

The fire service said approximately two hectares of land was ablaze.

Four fire engines, one from Wareham and three from Poole, attended as well as an all-terrain Unimog vehicle.

The fire was extinguished using two hose reel jets, beaters and the Ministry of Defence's water bowser and firefighters managed to bring the fire under control just after 10pm

They remained at the scene for some time damping down the area.
