These businesses and organisations are backing the Dorset Echo Toy Appeal which ensures every child has a present to open on Christmas Day.

Local fundraising club 'Ladies in Wey-ting' bumped into the Echo at the Wyke Christmas Street Fayre and handed over their £100 Toy Appeal donation on the spot.

The community-minded group were holding a tombola stand at the fayre in order to raise money for local causes, and made a grand total of £600 on the day.

Ladies in Wey-ting member Susan-Jane Smith said: "We feel it is most important to support the Echo's Toy Appeal every year, in order to help give disadvantaged children a little joy during difficult times, when perhaps they might not otherwise receive as much as some of their friends".

Marc Westmancott and Georgie Davis of MSW Landscaping (above) dropped into the Echo offices on their way to work, to donate £100 worth of Howleys vouchers to the Toy Appeal.

Mr Westmancott said: "I always do something for charity around Christmas time - this year I wanted to keep it local and give something back to the community, so the Toy Appeal is the perfect choice."

MSW Landscaping has been established in Dorset since 1992, covering Dorchester, Weymouth, Poole, Bournemouth and surrounding areas. The firm covers all aspects of hard and soft landscaping, specialising in decking, fencing, natural and artificial turf.

Simon Rose, store supervisor, said: "The Toy Appeal is a great opportunity for us to support the community, we're really happy to be helping again this year.

"I think this is the best year we've had so far but would be great if we could collect even more gifts, so please keep up the good work."

The committee of Portland Football Club scored a goal for the Toy Appeal, after everyone contributed to raise the £100 donation.

Club president David Camp, pictured above with chairman Robin Satherley, said: “We have supported the Toy Appeal for the last three to four years. It's always nice to give something back and to such a lovely cause.

“I would like to stress this money has been donated on behalf of all the committee members at Portland United Football Club.

“I’d also like to wish all of our wonderful supporters a merry Christmas and a happy new year.

“We will be holding a charity football match on Boxing Day at 11am, where we will be raising money for local cancer charity The Three Ells Trust."
