CLYST VALLEY 1

LYME REGIS 5

BEN Vine scored a well-taken brace to help Lyme Regis to a confident 5-1 victory over Clyst Valley in the Devon & Exeter Premier Division.

Cody Bowditch, Aaron Cleal and Jake Bearpark rounded off the scoring as Lyme moved up to fifth in the table.

The Seasiders took the lead after 15 minutes, through Bowditch, after a good flick-on from Vine which Bowditch hammered in with aplomb.

However, a series of failed clearances allowed Clyst Valley to rifle in a rebounded shot to equalise two minutes later.

After 30 minutes, Vine bagged his first of the afternoon, after a good pass from Ben Turner.

Vine added another five minutes before half-time, as he scored a very well-taken effort, curling the ball in from a tight angle.

Lyme would grab their next 10 minutes into the second half, to seal the match.

This time, Cleal latched on to a ball over the top, controlled the ball before poking the ball in through a crowd.

Clyst went down to 10 men after a defender picked up two yellow cards, the latter after fouling Bearpark and kicking the ball away.

Bearpark then rounded off the scoring five minutes before full time.

Lyme boss Gerard Hitchcock said: β€œIt was a tricky pitch, a tricky, muddy wet pitch.

β€œI was surprised it was even on after the weather we had all week so to actually get a game and then go down there and win against a team that is right around us and to win that well was good.”

Lyme are next in action away at Beer Albion on December 22.
