BOOK REVIEW

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL YEARBOOK

BY CHRIS SLEGG AND TOM GARRY

IF, like me, you've been captivated by the Women's Super League with home games now being played by Yeovil Town Ladies in Dorchester, you'll be thrilled to receive this comprehensive collection of stats, facts and results from all four tiers of women's football in this country.

It's also beautifully presented, packed with glossy colour photos of the star players and with a comprehensive timeline of significant moments in the history of the game since 1881.

The authors have interviewed players from across a range of clubs and amidst the scores and stats, the human stories shine through such as Yeovil's battle to stay in the top tier and current struggle to keep up with the rest of the pack after a recent transition to full time professionals, while Dorchester gets a special mention in the section on Yeovil Town Ladies with the Lady Glovers 'hoping to target their new home of Dorchester as a potential area to grow their fan base and commercial links'.

Half of the authors' royalties from the yearbook will go towards player sponsorship in a sport, making this not only an absorbing read but a worthy one too.

The Women's Football Yearbook is available from all good bookshops.
