DORCHESTER Sports will not “park the bus” when the county town side travels to red-hot Merley Cobham Sports in the Dorset Premier League tomorrow (2pm), assistant-manager Steve Churchill insists.
Merley, fired by former Dorchester Town striker Matt Groves, have scored a whopping 36 goals in their past four games to rise into third in the Dorset Premier League standings.
Groves, who has scored 11 goals in four games, has helped Merley record successive scorelines of 11-0, 9-1, 8-0 and 8-0 against Swanage Town & Herston, Wareham Rangers, Sherborne Town Reserves and Sturminster Newton respectively.
But an unfazed Churchill believes “attack could be the best form of defence” having warmed up for the clash with a 2-2 draw over title-chasing Westland.
He told Echosport: “We’re going to have to be tight defensively but we won’t be parking the bus, we’ll be trying to get something from the game.
“I think we’ve lost the last two away games there – they’re banging them in at the moment. If we go there and park the bus and invite them on to us it could be asking for trouble.
“Attack could be the best form of defence.”
On Groves’ form, Churchill added: “We’ve played against him before and know his strengths are on the physical side.
“We’ve got ideas of how we can deal with their threat. Not just Matt but Asa Phillips is a very good player as well.”
Alex Gould (hamstring) and Brandon Heal (groin) face assessment. Adam Steele is available.
