A MAN in his 20s was seriously injured in a crash in the early hours of this morning after his car hit two lampposts and rolled onto its roof.

The casualty was rushed to hospital with a fractured pelvis after the crash, which happened at 1.53am in Leigh Road, Wimborne.

Police have referred the incident to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as a marked police car was travelling in the opposite direction to attend an unconnected 999 call when the blue Ford Focus veered off the road.

Leigh Road was closed between Wimborne Road West and Hayes Lane while collision investigators examined the scene. The road remains closed this morning while the lamp post is made safe.

Chief Inspector Rob Chalkley called for anyone who was in Leigh Road at the relevant time and witnessed the crash, or anyone who saw the Focus being driven before the crash, to contact police on 101 quoting 15:50.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured the movements of the Focus on dash cam," he said.
