THE A338 Spur Road will be closed southbound tonight for urgent repairs following a car fire yesterday.

It will be shut - weather permitting - between Ashley Heath and Blackwater from 8pm until midnight after the road surface was damaged in the blaze.

The carriageway had to be closed at Ashley Heath while the incident was dealt with.

Police were called at 1.07pm to close the road for “firefighters’ safety” while crews tackled the fire.

Two crews from Springbourne and Christchurch to tackle the fire which involved a silver Peugeot 206.

The fire was extinguished using one breathing apparatus and a hose.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service said the car had been destroyed. Crews left the scene at 1.25pm.

Earlier in the day, emergency services attended a two vehicle crash on the Spur Road near Blackwater.

Officers were called to the scene at 11.47am as one of the vehicles was blocking a lane.
