Patients at a GP surgery which is closing this year will soon find out which practice they will be transferred to.

Following the shock announcement in October that Abbotsbury Road Surgery will close at the end of March, some 9,000 patients registered with the surgery will be sent a letter within the next week telling them which local GP practice they will be assigned to.

NHS Dorset CCG said the letters should be received by Friday, January 11.

Patients are being assured that the new practices will have access to both their health record and any repeat medication that they currently receive.

The process of transferring patient information has been scheduled outside of practice working hours, however the CCG says in a few cases some services will be unavailable at both Abbotsbury Road and the new practice for a short period of time on the day of transfer.

The disruption could also affect existing patients of the new practice.

During these down times the CCG advises that there are a number of ways to get help:

n Call 111 for advice

n Visit the Weymouth Urgent Treatment Centre at Weymouth Hospital

n In an emergency call 999 or attend the nearest emergency department

Details of any disruption will be published in advance.

A drop in event at Chickerell Primary Academy has been organised for patients who want to find out more. It will take place on Wednesday, January 9 between 5pm and 7pm.

Anyone who is unable to attend but has questions can email primary.care@dorsetccg.nhs.uk or call 0333 241 2495.
