On Christmas Day the Weymouth and Portland Lions Club held the 70th Weymouth harbour swim.

This is the club’s 50th year of being part of a worldwide association of Lions clubs in over 200 countries, comprising around 1.5 million people.

Lions help people all over the world and our own club mostly helps those local people who are less fortunate than ourselves.

We provide goods, equipment and practical support where it is needed, together with financial assistance largely raised from events such as the annual harbour swim.

The funds raised on Christmas Day will help us continue with this work, and on behalf of the members Weymouth and Portland Lions Club, I would like to extend our very grateful thanks to all those who supported this great Weymouth tradition in various ways: taking part, providing equipment, helping on the day, sponsorship, donations and so on; the event couldn’t take place without the fantastic support and involvement of many people and organisations.

Thank you all and the Lions wish you all a very happy and prosperous New Year.
