SIGNS on a new tanning studio in Dorchester are proving a little too bright for town councillors.

They have decided to object to a retrospective permission for the signs on the Great Western Road building which used to be occupied by the Cats Protection League.

“It’s hideous,” complained Cllr Richard Biggs, at Monday’s evening town council committee: “I don’t see any need for the signs to be illuminated at all, especially those facing onto Bowling Alley Walk.”

Other councillors shared his view and will now send in an objection when the new signs are considered by West Dorset District Council.

The studio is within the town’s Conservation Area with the rear of the building facing onto the Walks, the line of the previous Roman defences, a scheduled ancient monument.
