A 17-year-old girl from Weymouth will ‘Brave the Shave’ to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Nakira Worsdale said she is having her head shaved in support of her 75-year-old grandmother, Helen Worsdale, who has terminal stage four lung cancer.

Nakira said: “Unfortunately the treatment that my nan is having has resulted in the loss of all of her hair, so I decided that I will join her and have my hair shaved off.

“I’m not only doing it for my nan, but for all of the loved ones who are in our memories, for all the ones who are suffering now and also for Macmillan Cancer Support.

“This is really important to me and to my family, so it would be absolutely amazing if you could sponsor me.”

The shave will be carried out by Rebecca at the Eden Salon on Park Street in Weymouth town centre.

Nakira is very close to her grandparents and visits them often. Her grandfather, David Worsdale, 78, said: “She just came in one day and said she was going to have her head shaved for her nan.

“We said ‘no you can’t do that’ but she went straight ahead and printed off her fundraising sheet and the next day she had already ordered a wig and a hat.

“We are so proud of her, it’s means a lot to us that she wants to do this.”

Chrissie Wathen-Neal, Fundraising Manager for Macmillan Cancer Support in Dorset, said: “We would like to say a massive thank you to Nakira for ‘braving the shave’ to raise £100 for Macmillan during what must be a difficult time.

“Macmillan relies almost entirely on public donations. Nakira’s generous donation will help us support more people living with cancer in Dorset find their best way through.”

Over £4,000 has been raised in the last year for Macmillan by people ‘Braving the Shave’ and Nakira is hoping to add to that total.

Nakira has set herself a target of raising £100 for Macmillan Cancer Support and is already over halfway there.
