A road in North Dorset has been closed in both directions after an electricity pole fell into the road.

Travel Dorset reported that the A357 was closed both ways and there was slow traffic in the area due to a fallen electricity pole and power cables near Stalbridge.

The incident happened between Cook's Lane and Lower Road.

A team from Scottish and Southern Electricty Networks (SSEN) is at the scene.

Update: SSEN was alerted to the fault at 2.24pm today following reports of a fallen pole on the A357, near Cooks Lane.

A spokesperson from SSEN said: "We have isolated the supply of 264 customers for safety reasons as our engineers investigate and fix the fault.

"All customers are expected to be restored by 8pm today.

“We’d like to apologise to our customers and road users for any inconvenience caused by today’s fault near Cooks Lane and thank them for their patience as our engineers work to safely carry out repairs as quickly as possible.”

Update: The road closure has been extended to the Lower Road junction, originally closed at Wood Lane. Affecting traffic in town.
