LOCAL firm CG Fry and Son has begun work on the harbourmaster’s office in Lyme Regis.

The redevelopment of this building will include the partial demolition of the existing building and the construction of a rear single storey flat roof extension.

Completion is anticipated for spring 2019 in time for the harbour staff to move back in for the summer season.

Mike Pinney, contracting director of CG Fry and Son, said: “We undertake projects across the south west, but we are particularly looking forward to starting work on the harbourmaster’s office.

“Lyme Regis is a thriving harbour and the new building will stand to serve the maritime community for many years to come.”

The building will complement the existing surroundings and it is hoped the development will futureproof the facility for the anticipated increase in demand for boats in the harbour.

Cllr John Russell, portfolio holder for environmental protection and assets, said: “We are delighted that work is due to start soon at the harbourmaster’s office that overlooks the iconic Cobb.

“This is an important conservation area, and we are confident that the design will complement the historic nature of its surroundings.

“We are excited about the delightful addition of a 180-degree observation balcony.

“We have a waiting list of over 100 boats wanting to moor at our wonderful harbour and this updated harbourmaster’s office will give them a great experience.”
