A MAN has been handed a 12-month conditional discharge after 50 grammes of cannabis was found at his home.

Del Rees, aged 22 and of Victory Court, Poundbury admitted to possession of a class B controlled substance at Weymouth Magistrates Court on Monday.

The court heard, Rees' property was searched by officers on July 28, 2018.

A small amount of cannabis was found in his bedroom which Rees admitted belonged to him.

This prompted a further search of the home and officers found a tub containing around 50g of cannabis.

Rees was originally charged with possessing 97.4g of cannabis but the court accepted the drug had originally been weighed in the plastic tub and Rees said the amount was actually around 50g.

The court was told Rees had no previous convictions but had received two cautions for drug possession before - in 2014 and 2016.

Lee Christmas, mitigating, said Rees had been using the cannabis to self medicate as he suffered from a number of disorders including Aspergers Syndrome.

Mr Christmas added Rees had now taken steps to improve his life and had been given medication by a doctor.

Rees was handed a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £105 in costs and surcharge.
