WYKE Coastguard Rescue Team were called after a flare was seen in Weymouth Bay.
The incident happened this morning.
A spokesman for the coastguard said: “We were tasked at 8.30am to investigate reports of a flare in Weymouth Bay.
“With good visibility and a calm sea, searches provided no further information. The sighting was quite possible the low sun reflecting from something in the bay. However, the first informant did exactly the right thing to call the coastguard.”
