Burglars forced their way into a home through a ground floor window yesterday evening, police say.

According to a statement, an "untidy" search of the property was carried out - and police have so far been unable to establish "what, if anything", was stolen during the raid.

The incident is believed to have happened between 5.20pm and 9.15pm at Stour Drive, Wareham on Monday, January 21.

Police constable Rob Duckmanton of Purbeck police said he is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area to come forward - including drivers who have dashcams fitted and may have captured evidence.

“It is believed the offender may have been searching for jewellery in the home and we would urge anyone with valuable items such as this to make sure they are kept securely", he added.

“Keep a written record of any valuable jewellery pieces and take photographs as this will aid police in returning any stolen property, as well as making it difficult for burglars to sell on items without detection".
