A car has overturned on the A35 between Bridport and Dorchester.

The crash happened around 2.45pm near Winterbourne Abbas. 

Police said the car overturned, ending up on its roof and there are reports the driver had to be cut from the car. 

No other vehicles were involved.

At least three police cars, two fire engines and an ambulance are at the scene but the extend of injuries is not yet known. 

An eyewitness said motorists from other vehicles were assisting with first aid while they waited for the emergency services to arrive.

The road was completely blocked and traffic was diverted via the A37, A356 and the A3066. 

However the A35 has now been reopened (4.30pm).  

A spokesman for Dorset Police said the casualty sustained a slight injury.
