Get your glow sticks, head torches and neon paint at the ready, a late-night fun run is set to light up Weymouth seafront this year for the first time ever.

The Bright for Sight Night Run, sponsored by Friths Opticians, is an event organised by the Dorset Blind Association that will take place in Weymouth on Saturday, April 13.

The well-loved fun run usually takes place along Boscombe seafront every year has become so successful that the sight loss charity is expanding the event to become county wide.

The event is open to all ages and abilities and you can walk, run or even skip along either the 5km or 10km route. Participants are asked to wear their brightest clothing, neon paint, glow sticks or fairy lights to help make Weymouth’s first ever Bright for Sight Night Run the brightest one yet.

Helena Sinclair, Events Fundraiser at Dorset Blind Association, said: “We are extremely excited to bring the Bright for Sight Night Run to Weymouth, following on from its popularity in Boscombe.

“We hope that the event will raise additional support and vital awareness in the local community for sight loss and the ever-growing need for our services.”

To celebrate their 100th year anniversary, the Dorset Blind Association is encouraging runners to raise £100 in sponsorship, which would enable 20 vulnerable people to be visited in their homes by the charity’s caring volunteers.

The charity has been supporting individuals living with sight loss since 1918. The need for their services is ever increasing and with the number of people living with visual impairment due to hit 35,000 in Dorset alone, the demand is high.

Currently, the charity has more than 300 volunteers who help support upwards of 1000 visually impaired people across the county every month.
