Residents who want to save money on their energy bills are being given a helping hand.

Weymouth and Portland Citizens Advice is making the move as part of Big Energy Saving Week.

New figures show 17.5 per cent of households in Weymouth and Portland switched their energy supplier last year.

Despite the introduction of a price cap on energy bills at the start of the year, people could still save more than £150 by switching their supplier.

Tomorrow, staff and volunteers from Weymouth and Portland Citizens Advice will be running a drop-in session at Tesco in Easton, Portland to help people find the best deal on their energy bills.

They’ll also be giving advice on how people can make their homes more energy efficient, as well as ensuring people are getting any discounts or grants they might be entitled to. The drop-in is from 10am-3pm.

To support customers to save money on their energy bills, Citizens Advice provides an independent price comparison site and a customer service star rating which ranks suppliers’ customer service.

Advice Services Manager Rachel Rogers said: “There are many reasons why people may be paying too much for their energy so this week is a great chance for people to get a bit of extra advice and support on how they can save money on their bills.

“If you’re struggling to pay your energy bills or are worried you’re not getting the best deal or just need some advice, our energy champions are on hand to help.”
