A SERIES of astonishing tapestries can be seen at Bridport Arts Centre until February 16.

Somerset artist Jenni Dutton, of Taunton, is exhibiting the beautiful series of portraits, called The Dementia Darnings, whilst caring for her mother who was living with dementia.

Jenni took a selection of photos of her mother and reproduced them as large-scale portraits in wool and thread.

The likenesses and expressions in the huge canvases are quite wonderful, and really capture her mother’s (and her) emotional journey – for good and for bad.

The artworks reflect the ageing process as well as the erosive effect of the illness on the individual.

Jenni is collecting money for Alzheimer’s Research UK – the UK’s leading dementia research charity – at the exhibition. The charity aims to make research breakthroughs possible and find the first life-changing treatment and cure by 2025. Around 850,000 people in the UK are currently living with dementia.

*The Dementia Darnings, until February 16, open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free.
