A "very poorly" elderly male was taken to hospital by ambulance, following concerns raised by neighbours.
A spokesman for Purbeck Police confirmed that a neighbour's call to 999 was the right call to make, after the man failed to answer his front door when a key was found outside.
Entry was forced into the man's home in Swanage, where officers found him to be in need of medical attention.
Ambulance crews were called and have been praised by police for carrying out "sterling work" at the scene, before taking the man to hospital.
"It goes to show the importance of looking out for neighbours", the police spokesman commented.
