Hi readers, it’s Emily and William here this week, thinking about disasters we have had while cooking a meal.

You might know the scene. We are cooking and then suddenly get distracted, like the phone goes off, making us jump, and it goes horribly wrong.

For example I, Emily was cooking pizza at my friend’s house. We got distracted and by the time we remembered the pizza, it was totally burnt and solid!

Both of us have burnt the bottom of saucepans by forgetting to stir, and are then faced with a sticky mess to clear up.

Another time I, Emily was cooking a meal and managed to burn the bottom of Mum’s best pan. I panicked as I couldn’t get it clean, so I asked a friend who said to add salt and leave it for a while. I was so worried, but when Mum got back and I told her, it was such a relief as she was ok about it. And we did get it off in the end!

The other thing we’ve both struggled with is food bubbling over in the microwave. Has that happened to you too?

I, Emily have also gone to cook but forgotten we’d left some trays in the oven with oil on them, so when we opened the oven door to put food in, smoke poured out and all the alarms went off!

I, William have made a cake with the wrong flour and it hasn’t risen! We have both tried using different ingredients in recipes and found it hasn’t quite worked out. Sometimes something has spilt on a recipe book and it’s hard to read it properly, so we’ve guessed but got it wrong.

We’d love to hear your cooking disasters!
