Two men have been arrested on suspicion of drug offences after police raided a property in Weymouth.

Just before 12pm yesterday, police conducted a warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act at an address on Chickerell Road.

A 19-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug with intent to supply.

A second man triggered an emergency response from police and fire teams after it was reported he got onto the roof of a nearby property.

Residents described seeing a man on the roof at the back of a Chickerell Road property near to the junction with A354, Rodwell Road (Boot Hill).

At the height of the drama, eyewitnesses said residents gathered in Chickerell Road to watch the incident which was reportedly attended by police, armed officers, a police dog unit and two fire engines.

The police spokesman said: “[A man] was brought down with the assistance of the fire service and arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs.”

Two men are assisting officers with enquiries.

A Chickerell Road resident said he went into his garden and saw a man on the roof at the back of a nearby property.

“The dog was barking and I went outside to have a cigarette and a coffee and saw him on the roof. I have no idea how he got there,” he said. “He was up there for ages. The fire brigade were trying to get him down but he kept refusing.”

He added eventually the man came down and he saw him being taken away in a police car.

Two residents said this was the second police incident in the road in a matter of months.

One said: “It’s a bit alarming. I don’t feel safe. I’ll be keeping the back door locked from now on. It’s a bit worrying having people on roofs and in the gardens. I just hope nothing like this happens again.”

According to police the arrests were made “in response to intelligence received from the local community”.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: “We are committed to tackling the suspected supply and production of drugs in our area and would urge any residents with information or concerns in relation to alleged drug-related activity to contact us at www.dorset.police.uk, via email 101@dorset.pnn.police.uk or by calling 101.”
