Weymouth Gay Group and friends are getting ready for LGBT History Month and say a highlight will be the raising of the Rainbow Flag in Weymouth and Dorchester.

This will take place on Monday, February 4 at 10.45am, outside the borough council offices on Commercial Road, Weymouth, and outside the district council offices in South Walks Road, Dorchester, at the same time. All are invited.

Various LGBT groups will be contributing to a month-long exhibition at Weymouth Library, where there will also be a meet and greet event, upstairs, on Tuesday, February 12 from 10am-3pm.

Organisers say it is "an opportunity to meet local representatives from the LGBT community - including Weymouth Gay Group, Space Youth Project, MindOut Weymouth, and Transgender groups".

"LGBT History Month has been observed since 2005, and is an opportunity to demonstrate that LGBT people are welcome, valued and respected in our community", said a spokesman for the group.

"We aim to raise awareness, educate and inform; celebrate achievements and send out a clear message of support, whilst campaigning against discrimination and inequality faced by the LGBT community".

LGBT History Month events will also be featured in more depth on The Local LGBT radio show, which goes live on AIR Community Radio107.2FM, Tuesdays at 9pm.
