THERE has been disruption across the county in the last few days as airports ground to a halt and schools closed on Friday, but in true British style, Dorset’s residents have been out making the most of the snow.

The white stuff began to fall in parts of the county on Wednesday and by Friday morning planes had been grounded at both Bournemouth and Bristol Airports and many schools decided to close.

From sledging, to snowball fights and even building igloos, many people enjoyed the early start to the weekend and had some fun in the wintry weather.

Between 2cm to 30cm of snowfall was reported to have fallen across Dorset as temperatures plummeted to below 0 degrees Celsius overnight and many readers have been sending in their pictures of Dorset in the snow.

On Saturday afternoon, 12-year old Isla and 10-year-old Jasper Brown built an igloo in the snowdrifts along Gould’s Hill footpath, near Upwey, with a little help from their parents Josie and Ben.

Mrs Brown said: “Although the snow was visibly melting on the surrounding hills, the snow had drifted to around 40 to 50cm in places along the path, making it easy to cut chunky bricks out and build a proper igloo.”

Several people captured Dorset beauty spots covered in snow including the Hardy Monument, Puddletown Forest and Maiden Castle.

On Saturday night temperatures in parts of the county dropped below minus six but after a chilly weekend it looks like we won’t see anymore snow this week as temperatures are set to rise.

It will be a much warmer week with the average temperature being around 10 degrees Celsius during the day and will stay well above freezing during the night.

However, you may need to find some fun things to do indoors this week as it is going to be wet with rain forecast every day and heavy showers forecast in parts of the county for Tuesday evening and Friday afternoon.

Tomorrow will have a frosty start, then turning wet and windy. According to the Met Office the weather will stay “unsettled” on Wednesday and Thursday with longer spells of rain.
