Town councillors in Dorchester have questioned whether an application to convert a garage at a house in Fordington needs listed building consent.

The house, at 33 Holloway Road, is classified as being listed which usually means special measures have to be taken before any work is carried out.

At the council’s planning committee on Monday evening the committee looked at an application to convert the garage at the property into an annexe.

Cllr Fiona Kent-Ledger said that although the garage was probably not listed internal changes to link the garage to the house might mean that listed consent would be needed.

She was also unhappy about the design of the garage conversion which she said did not fit in with the character of the rest of the street.

The comments, which were backed by the rest of the committee, will be passed to the district council who will make the final decision on the application.
