Coastguards responded to concerns over a man in distress at Portland Bill yesterday evening.

Portland Bill and Wyke Regis coastguard teams were joined by police after the alarm was raised by the National Maritime Operations Centre at around 8pm on Tuesday evening.

Weymouth's lifeboat crew and paramedics from South West Ambulance Trust also attended the scene.

A spokesman for the coastguard said the man was quickly located near Portland Bill lighthouse and taken to a place of safety by Dorset Police.
