Police arrested a man after he reportedly threw roof slates to the ground from the roof of a Weymouth hotel.

At 10.22pm yesterday (February 5), Dorset Police was called to reports of a man on the roof of the Royal Hotel on The Esplanade in Weymouth, concerned for his welfare.

Officers from Weymouth and Portland Police attended and it was reported that the man was throwing roof slates to the ground, hitting vehicles parked below.

A cordon was put in place and the man was taken to safety at around 2.15am.

Police are still investigating the extent of the damage.

The 30-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
