Fishermen were in for a real treat as they spotted a pod of dolphins swimming off Portland recently.
John Wiltshire, a keen angler who lives on the isle, was out fishing for bass when he spotted the dolphins and took this video.
He said: "I was fortunate enough to be invited to fish for bass from Rumrunner, skippered by Nigel Taylor.
"On January 10 we were a couple of miles off Portland Bill when, about lunchtime, we spotted a lot of seabirds feeding about half a mile away. We could also see lots of dark shapes in the water.
"Heading over to investigate, we found ourselves surrounded by a group of dolphins, many of which came to check us out. It was quite exciting and a privilege to be there.
"When we returned we were met just off the Stone Pier by a bottlenose dolphin that seems to have taken up residence in and around Portland Harbour, a fitting end to an enjoyable day.
"A few days earlier we had been fishing over a wreck many miles out to sea and were surrounded by even more dolphins, probably in the hundreds."
Emma Rance from the Dorset Wildlife Trust said: "It's not often we get reports of the short-beaked common dolphin inshore so this was a real treat."
