Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team were called at 3.53pm on Friday, February 8 after a kite surfer was reported to be in difficulty at Newton’s Cove.
The team was alerted to the incident by National Maritime Operations Centre to assist Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team.
A spokesman for Wyke Coastguard Rescue Team said: “A kite surfer was reported struggling with his equipment tangled in rocks on the breakwater. It transpired he had abandoned his gear, returned to Ferrybridge, then driven and accessed the breakwater from Bincleaves and recovered his equipment. Another false alarm with good intent, the team were able to observe from the station to ensure he departed safely.”
Meanwhile, Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team was stood down on route and returned to the station.
