A FEW days ago I pointed out to the driver of a delivery van that he had parked illegally on the markings by the toucan crossing in Lanehouse Rocks Road.

He replied that he was allowed to park there for 10 minutes.

He appeared to be unaware that a young child had been killed in similar circumstances in Wareham where he was not seen to be crossing because of the presence of a parked car.

Such parking is illegal (£60 fine/three points on licence)

No doubt van drivers are put under considerable pressure by their employers.

However, careless driving and parking is not acceptable.

It is not of course solely the fault of van drivers.

Other inconsiderate and hazardous practices which are increasing are parking across dropped kerbs, parking on pavements and parking so as to obstruct buses, trucks, fire fighters etc getting past.

I had hoped to get a response to my concern from the company concerned but they have not replied.
