BANDS rocked away in Dorchester for an Oxjam charity night.

The special gig involved bands taking to the stage at the Firestation club in Trinity Street, Dorchester.

As well as raising money for charity, the event gave unsigned musicians a chance to take part in MTV's Get Seen, Get Heard competition and even go on to play alongside big-name artists in a special concert.

Upstairs at the Firestation the event had stalls including music, badges, raffle, Fairtrade, and information on Black History Month as well as DJing by Go Swirl.

Oxfam volunteer Michelle Markham said this year's national fundraiser was hoping to raise more than £1 million for the charity to help tackle poverty all over the world.

She said: "We also had an official busk in South Street all day on Saturday, with different local musicians playing more acoustic-style music."

All the money raised will go towards helping people to earn a living, get an education, health care, fresh water, and to grow more food.

Bands and artists playing at Oxjam gigs were able to upload any recorded footage to a specially created MTV website, and the most popular acts, as voted by viewers, will appear on MTV in a series of Get Seen, Get Heard profiles.
