On Tuesday we reported how the income at Dorchester market is continuing to decline - and readers had a lot of opinions about it. Here's what they had to say.

  • Most of the market is little more than s big car boot sale. Half & Half
  • To be fair I walked through it recently and there were a couple of local independent stalls, one selling cakes and one selling vegan food (which looked very good), but I’m not convinced if these stalls are suited to the usual market visitors looking for cheap fruit and veg, meat and cheap clothes. The two new stalls might be better off on the Cornhill market. Flowerforce
  • Bring in some proper street food vendors selling Thai, Moroccan, American style food, then get rid of the dodgy burger vans. Then it should do well. Dan De-Lion
  • What they're really trying say is they're going to knock it all down to build affordable housing. “Not“ zig zag hill
  • No wonder why.... Indoor market got so expensive like an antique house....Frankie Boy2013
  • Clothing and other unwanted items are recycled rather than have to go to landfill at a cost to the tax payer and the environment. The market toilets were shut down for weeks which didn’t help. If you don’t spend any money on the buildings they will leak and who wants their property ruined? Can’t help but think someone wants to build on the site. MaidofDorset
  • In my mind, the market was always more of an interesting day out than a chance to go shopping. Fewer people have the disposable incomes at the moment to spend here. Fewer people turning up means some stalls just won’t bother. OhHolyPretender
  • The profits will never be big based around the very cheap items that are sold. The main consumer appears to be busloads of pensioners on a daytrip looking for the latest in wolf fleece jackets. None of these conditions is a big money spinner. Dorset stuff
