The popular Wessex Folk Festival is looking for volunteers to help make this year’s event another success.
The festival brings performances of the best in British folk music and dance to the Weymouth quayside from May 31 to June 2. But as there are no admission charges the event relies on volunteer stewards to help raise money and ensure everything runs smoothly.
Janice Munz, who organises the festival volunteers, says the event gives volunteer stewards the chance to be the welcoming face of the festival to locals and visitors alike. She adds: “One of the most important roles of the stewards is to be out and about with the collection buckets selling programmes and badges. There’s also a need for stewards to give information and directions around the streets and by the music and dance stages.”
This year, the festival has also set up a Friends of the Festival group for supporters who would like to help with publicity and other work that needs doing before the festival weekend itself. Details of how to become a volunteer can be found at the Wessex Folk Festival website at www.wessexfolkfestival.com
Artists already confirmed to play at this year’s festival include the award-winning duo Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman, and one of last year’s favourites, Gadarene.
