COUNCILS will be flying a flag for the Commonwealth on Monday, March 11.

This unique initiative will see more than 850 flags raised in 38 Commonwealth countries.

West Dorset District Council and Weymouth & Portland Borough Council will be hosting flag-raising events from 9.50am on the day, and members of the public are invited along to mark this occasion.

A message from the Queen will be read along with a specially written Commonwealth Affirmation and a message from the Commonwealth Secretary General. The flag will then be raised at 10am.

West Dorset District Council’s ceremony will be held at South Walks House and will be hosted by West Dorset District Council Chairman, Cllr Peter Shorland.

Weymouth & Portland Borough Council’s ceremony will be held at Commercial Road and will be led by Weymouth & Portland Mayor, Cllr Gill Taylor.

North Dorset District Council’s flag will be raised throughout the day at the Nordon Hub.
