A TOURING museum has extended its stay at Brewery Square thanks to its incredible success.

Dorset County Museum relocated to Brewery Square late last year as a major refurbishment project got underway. The lease was agreed until early 2019, but due to the success of the location it has been extended until after the Easter holidays.

Dorset County Museum will now remain on the site until Saturday, April 27, before heading off on its tour of the county.

During the pop-up museums operation in 2018 it received more than 5,000 visitors, which is a 48 per cent increase in comparison to the museum in 2017.

Jonathan Murden, director at Dorset County Museum, commented: “Brewery Square was a natural home for us during our refurbishment, and we’ve really enjoyed being a part of the family. Visitor numbers are up and we hope this sets a precedent for the rest of the museum’s tour.”

A series of events are on offer at the museum over the half term and in the lead up to Easter including a workshop on Romans and mosaics, meet the archaeologist sessions, Mother’s Day and Easter card making, and a chance to see the plans of what the museum will look like when it reopens in 2020.

Charlotte Spracklen, centre manager at Brewery Square, added: “It has been absolutely wonderful working with the team at Dorset County Museum, they’ve really added an extra level to the experience at the Square. While we’ll be sad to see them go, we’d like to wish them the best of luck with the tour around the county.”

In April 2019, Tomorrow’s Museum for Dorset will head to Weymouth and Portland for the next stage of the county-wide tour offering an inspiring and immersive experience to schoolchildren and rural communities right across Dorset.
