LESS than a week remains for a west Dorset school to raise as much money as possible for new playground equipment.

Powerstock Primary School have until February 22 to make their dream of a trim trail in their playground a reality.

Most recently, to raise funds, pupils, teachers and parents took part in a sponsored ‘Daily Mile’, an initiative the children do each day throughout the day which gets them out of the classroom to run or walk a mile.

The children were put into four teams, with each doing a lap of the playground before high-fiving the next pupil to run, walk or skip their lap.

The parents and teachers did the same, but there was great competitiveness from the pupils to complete more laps within the 30 minutes.

The activity was part of their mission to raise money for a new trim trail and climbing wall, which will become a part of their daily mile.

They needed to raise £5,000 in order for it to be match-funded by Dorset County Council and have set up a Crowdfunding page - http://bit.ly/2G4Wb9F - which has been suuccessful in gaining the pledge from the county council and they have so far raised £11,456.

The school was successful in getting through the first round of the Dorset County Council youth projects funding bid and the Crowdfunder was the next step to ensure the £5,000 from the county council.

Headteacher Louise Greenham said the school wants to make more of their outdoor space and in recent years the school has adopted a ‘proud to be active’ ethos.

The trim trail is a series of physically challenging equipment which will allow children of different ages to test their core strength, flexibility, balance and stamina.
