A young hairdresser is preparing to Brave the Shave for a cancer charity after his boss was diagnosed with cancer.

Cameron Lawrence, 17, from Weymouth, is an apprentice hairdresser at Hair Moda on Marsh Road.

He decided to organise a charity head shave after the salon’s owner, Diane Sadeghi, faced a battle with cancer.

He said: “My boss has cancer and to see her go through this difficult time and still have a smile on her face amazes me.

“We get on really well. I have been here for two years now, but sadly she hasn’t been able to work because she’s not been too well.”

Cameron said his colleagues have been supporting his fundraising efforts and added: “Everyone has been saying how proud they are and how it’s a good thing to do, but I’m not half as brave as Diane.”

He told how he was nervous but glad to be doing the fundraiser.

It is hoped Diane herself can perform the head shave but it will depend how she feels on the day.

Cameron added: “My hair will grow back in time. I’ve never had it that short before.”

Meanwhile, he has already smashed his fundraising target of £100 and has raised more than £500.

He explained: “It’s been crazy, I’m surprised how much we have raised already. My target was £100, but I smashed it in two days. “People have been so generous, they have been donating £5, £10 and £20 notes. My best mate donated £50.

“I will keep going to see how much money I can raise.”

Brave the Shave is a fundraiser promoted by, and raising money for, Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan invites people to ‘do something amazing’ and get their head shaved to raise money for people living with cancer. Since 2015, brave shavers around the UK have raised more than £16.8 million.

Cameron, who has been working at Hair Moda for more than two years, said: “I love it, it’s so enjoyable when you go to work and do something you like.”

Cameron will be having his head shaved at the salon this Saturday at 3.30pm.
