A passenger involved in a crash in rural Dorset almost a month ago has sadly died from his injuries, police said today.

The crash involving a van happened at Tiley Knap, Middlemarsh, between Dorchester and Sherborne at 5.50pm on Saturday, January 26.

Police said a silver Peugeot Boxer van with two people inside left the road.

The passenger, a 37-year-old man from Sherborne suffered serious injuries and was trapped in the vehicle. He was released with the assistance of firefighters before being airlifted to Southampton General Hospital. Dorset Police said he has since died from his injuries.

His family continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers.

The driver of the van, a 43-year-old man from Somerset, was arrested on suspicion of driving offences and taken to Dorset County Hospital by ambulance as a precaution. He has been released under investigation as officers continue to make enquiries.
