A neighbourhood plan is being progressed for Blandford.

It sets out a range of planning policies including those regarding design, green infrastructure, community facilities – and an allocation for a development including a new primary school and housing.

The plan, which has evolved from the first version submitted to the district council in 2016 – covers the parishes of Blandford Forum, Blandford St Mary and Bryanston.

It has been submitted by the town council to North Dorset District Council so an independent examiner can assess it.

The district council is required to publicly consult on the plan. The plan, supporting documents, and response form can be accessed online at dorsetforyou.gov.uk

You can also view the plan at the Blandford Forum Town Council’s offices on Church Lane, North Dorset District Council’s offices at Nordon Lodge, and South Walks House, Dorchester during normal opening hours.

All comments must be received by 4pm on Friday, March 29.

These comments will then be sent to the examiner along with the plan. Depending on the examiner’s report, a referendum will be held for residents to decide whether the plan should be approved.

Cllr David Walsh, Portfolio Holder for Planning at North Dorset District Council, said: “It is good news that the Blandford + Neighbourhood Plan has been submitted to the District Council. Its submission is the result of a huge amount of hard work and perseverance by all those involved in producing the plan.

“I would strongly encourage anyone with an interest in the future of Blandford, Blandford St Mary or Bryanston to have their say on the submitted plan.”
