DINERS will soon get fortnightly updates on which are the cleanest eateries in Weymouth and Portland.

Environmental health officers will publish new figures online every two weeks giving the hygiene standards of every takeaway and restaurant in the borough.

Printed lists of the information will also be updated monthly and displayed in public places for the first time since the grading system began.

Weymouth and Portland Borough Council gives every business that serves food a gold, silver, bronze or unsatisfactory rating according to how well they meet food safety legislation.

A council spokesman said: "The full listing is available as a searchable database on the council's website.

"Printed lists, updated monthly, have been arranged to ensure that this information is also available to those without Internet access."

The lists will be displayed at the Weymouth Tourist Information Centre and the Pavilion in The Esplanade.

They will also be put up at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council's North Quay offices and in Littlemoor library in Louviers Road.

The lists will appear at the Portland Bill Tourist Infor-mation Centre, Tophill library in Easton and Underhill library in Fortuneswell.

They will also be displayed at the Island Volunteers Centre in Easton and Portland Town Council's offices in Fortuneswell.

Coun Tim Munro, community health and safety spokesman for Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, said: "In terms of food hygiene, the council's aim is twofold.

"It is to raise standards so that the public can eat out with confidence and to ensure that all food and drink purchased in the borough is fit for consumption.

"Ideally, we would like all our premises to be gold standard."
