A LEISURE centre is set to get a makeover thanks to a funding boost from a supermarket.

Osprey Leisure Centre has recently refurbished its meeting room and conference facilities, and it will now use a £5,655 grant from the Asda Foundation to furnish its rooms and replace tired, worn out furniture with updated facilities.

The Asda Foundation is celebrating its 30th birthday over the next year with a number of surprise grants to previously supported projects totalling to £300,000.

The application to the Asda Foundation by South Dorset Community Sports Trust was supported by store colleagues at the Asda store at Newstead Road.

John Jennison, general manager of Osprey Leisure Centre Trust, said: “As we are a non-profit organisation that rely heavily on donations for our work, we are so pleased to be receiving this donation from the Asda Foundation.”

“The rooms in our community centre looked tired and outdated and we are now able to use the funding to help towards refurbishment. Through painting, decorating, and furnishings, the money will allow us to refresh the rooms to offer a nice environment to all our guests.”

Jacqui Dixon, Asda Weymouth’s community colleague, said: “We see the Foundation as one of the many ways to give something back to the communities that support us. That’s why we lend a hand to the wide range of good causes with which our colleagues are involved.

“Supporting smaller, local applications such as South Dorset Community Sports Trust is really important to us – and we hope it will make a real difference within the local community in Weymouth.”
