SHERBORNE TOWN RES 3

BRIDPORT RES 4

BRIDPORT came out on top of a barnstorming match at Sherborne Town Reserves that ended in a 4-3 win for the Bees, with both teams having a man sent off in the Dorset Premier League.

The Bees made a brilliant start, and went 2-0 up inside 15 minutes.

The first came after 10 minutes, when Riley Weedon did superbly down the right-hand side, crossed in a ball which evaded everyone, but Baggs, playing it at left back, arrived to drill in a shot from six yards.

Then Robin Jones got down the left, whipped in a ball for Baggs to nod in his second in five minutes.

However Sherborne narrowed the scores when Peart gave away a penalty, when he shielded the ball with excessive force away from the striker inside the box, which was duly converted after 30 minutes.

Soon after, Peart gave away a free-kick on the edge of the Bridport box.

Sherborne then hit the free-kick under the wall to equalise after 35 minutes.

The Bees regrouped and grabbed a third just before half-time, when Baggs wrapped up his hat-trick with a free-kick on the edge of the Sherborne area.

The second half was a scrappy affair, but Sherborne were reduced to 10 men when Jack Baker was sent off for dissent.

Substitutes Josh Baker and Finn Cooper combined well for the latter to nod in a cross from the former after 75 minutes.

Peart was also sent off for the Bees in the last 10 minutes.

In the 95th minute, there was another Sherborne penalty, which was again dispatched to make it 4-3 with the last kick of the match.

Bees boss Shaun Annetts said: “I think Sherborne, they beat us 2-0 back at our place in September, which hurt us a lot because we were not expecting it and we probably didn’t take them too seriously back then and we were punished as heavily as we could have been. So there was a little bit of revenge required.”

Bridport host Portland Reserves on Saturday.
